Hey everyone, I heard back from San Diego's CW affiliate, XETV:
I wrote:
"I am part of the devoted fanbase for the CW show Reaper. We understand at this time that CW has cancelled the show, but ABC is considering continuing it in syndication on Sunday nights. If this goes through, I very much hope XETV will buy the show and include it in their Sunday night lineup. Thanks so much for your time and attention to this issue."
They wrote:
"ABC is considering continuing Reaper in syndication and we've already had a few discussions about it. So keep your fingers crossed that everything works out. Thanks for your support and for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Have a great weekend!"

Well I don't feel too bad then because I asked Chang to contact my Pittsburgh affiliate, who as far as I know is interested but has not been contacted yet. I assume that was okay.

No, that's why I didn't panic when I saw that you had already emailed her. You might want to forward your affiliate email though, if you didn't with your original reply.

I almost think you should send this in, snare, as it's rather like pacejunkie's situation, but I can't think of a way to sell it. Any ideas?

Y'know, if anyone has any time, I'm drafting a letter to try and send out to reporters who have written about Reaper. If anyone want to try and find the email address of someone who writes about television at your local paper, I would appreciate it. Thank you. I have been noticing that several of them put their email addresses at the bottom of their articles.
Granted, they may not print an article, but they *may* mention it when they go all REAPER'S SERIES FINALE TUESDAY on us.
Or y'know, if y'all wanna contact them on your own, feel free to do that too. You can also keep pelting E!Online, EW, and TVGuide. The names I know are Ausiello, Kristin, and Matt Megavitch.

Cris in the Dallas-Fort Worth area got this response from her Tribune group:
Dear XXX, It's not up to individual stations if the CW network keeps Reaper. We are definitely interested in the show if it's made available in syndication. Please stay tuned! (signed) danell.winter@tribune.com
No indication on the email who this person is at the Tribune. Hmm, not sure if this helps, but add it to the list of responses.
Ms. Pennington currently lists Reaper as canceled. It's only potentially canceled, since ABC Studios is actively trying to sell the show to syndication, which is confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
That's the only official link I have right now, although it's been copied into many newspaper reports. But we also have confirmation from "unofficial" sources (some CW affiliates, as well as an industry insider) that syndication for Reaper is a very real possibility. If you want the unofficial (background info), I wrote it up here:
I am sorry if this the wrong email address to find Ms. Pennington, and if possible could you either send me the information, or forward this Ms. Pennington or the correct department?

1) The CW Reaper (not official) just tweeted this link to ABC Studios' page on Reaper, and is encouraging people to write to Ms. Chang. I'll tweet him/her with Nick's warning. (ETA CWReaper tweated economically as follows: "Email [Ms.] Chang (<removed>) ONLY if you get positive feedback from CW affiliates and forward it to 'em!")
2) See below for what I emailed to Tim Goodman (SF Gate) and similar to Mike Murphy (PressDemocrat). Great idea, blue.

Hi, Tim. Local Bay Area fan of yours, love your column, blog, and bits on KFOG. You've covered Reaper in the past, and have said that Reaper is cancelled by The CW, which indeed it is. But the story on the street (well the internet, and Twitter!) is that ABC Studios is actively trying to sell the show to syndication, which is confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Hope you might either shed some light on the possibility of this, or write about it, perhaps related to the Reaper Season finale? I gather from KFOG that you don't watch the show anymore, but we think there will be several reveals: is Sam (Bret Harrison) really the Son of the Devil (Ray Wise)? Will Sam get out of his Contract of the Damned? Will Ben (Rick Gonzalez) find true love in the arms of his hot demon girlfriend (Jenny Wade)?
Oh, and can Reaper beat the odds and get picked up for a Season Three?
Thanks, Tim. You're the only reason I still read the Chron and listen to KFOG.

Interesting blurbs at those sites describing the Tribune Broadcasting:

Even Jenny Wade has sent in letters. And the responses we've received from the affiliates are very positive. Also, in regards to our previous discussion, we received word that Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas will remain involved with the show, should it return.

Also, I wrote to one person who responded that he doubted Reaper would enforce Tyler's contract, so I thought I would include my response for you all to use:
Quote:
Fox put off Tyler's pilot until midseason, just because of the Reaper issue. Plus, Tyler himself has said he'd be back.
And personally, I can imagine it, given how the CW treated Reaper, but to be fair we have received word ABC Studios may be trying to shop it without him:
Unfortunately guys, I am out for almost all of Monday so you are on your own. I recommend trying to post on all the TV schedules that are about to come out for this week, and still trying to find reporters and affiliates to write to - as well as recruit others to do so as well. Thank you all for your help.

I actually had a panicky thought. I wondered for the first time whether Reaper could get picked up in enough markets but not some of the markets where we can see the show. What a blow it would be if we save the show but then it isn't on in Pittsburgh for example? I would cry. This is tough because without a national network, we need to get the show on everywhere our fans can see it, and even still some may be missing out.
Also, I hope this doesn't decrease the chances of a DVD release.

I know, pace, that is unsettling, but it seems like if the deal gets struck, the show would be relatively easy (whatever that means) for the other affiliates to pick up. Sure, some might not go for it, but as it is, the affiliates don't always show it because they have baseball or whatever. I can't imagine that a major area likt Pittsburgh would decline.
As long as the show gets made, there's always online--though now I think about it, what official site would the show get featured on?--and I'm sure they'd do DVDs.
I know this has been said, but I've been thinking more about what NickC said about ABC Studios' view of the CW, and how much that affected Michele and Tara's decision to sign the other contract, and without any official parting words.

Reaper Update Summary So Far: Memorial Day! « Reply #231 on May 25, 2009, 12:13pm »
Just an update/combination post on the news above, scan upwards for more in-depth coverage!
Everything we're hearing is sounding GOOD for the syndication deal. People have had VERY positive responses from CW affiliates they’ve written. Today we received word that two of the biggest Tribune-owned CW markets are interested in the show, and since Tribune owns a boatload of affiliates, it’s thought if the Tribune stations come on board, Season 3 is a lock.
Industry insider Nick C. addressed in his blog Reaper's prospects for life after the CW. This backs up The Hollywood Reporter's recent article. Among the many tidbits:
* ABC Studios is still commited to the show. * Tyler's Reaper contract requires his return, regardless if the show is picked up by a network or syndication. * While talks are in the works for SyFy, the most likely scenario for Reaper is syndication to CW affiliates. ABC Studios is aiming to pair up Reaper with Legend of the Seeker, another syndicated ABC Studios production that already successfully airs on many of the affiliates. * If sold with Legend of the Seeker, Reaper may be looking at an October return. * Time is running out. At most, Nick C. estimates a week before a final decision will be made.
The more CW affiliates that pick up Reaper, the more likely it will be renewed. Email your local affiliate. We have received promising feedback, especially from the Regional Manager of multiple stations, Chris Wolf. Find your affiliate here.
If you're in an area covered by Tribune Broadcasting (check here), Tribune's feedback page lists as a contact:
Gary Weitman Media Relations, Tribune Company 435 North Michigan Avenue Chicago, IL 6061 gweitman@tribune.com
Either way, also contact your local affiliate. Mentioning a potential Sunday night pair up of Reaper and Legend of the Seeker probably wouldn't hurt. I have also been mentioning the Reaper Petition myself.
And for all fans, including international: Write ABC Studios and thank them for their support of Reaper. International fans can contact their own affiliates as well. Overseas sales are important too, so if ABC knows they can make money internationally, that's another reason for them to keep the show.
Mr. Stephen McPherson, President ABC Entertainment Group 500 S. Buena Vista St. Burbank, CA 91521 Re: REAPER
Last but not least, Nick C. recommends trying to get advertisers to write in. Fans are nice, but potential advertisers are better. If you know any businesses that might be willing to purchase local airtime, ask if they would be willing to advertise during Reaper. If they say yes, see if they will also tell that to your CW affiliate.
While all affiliates are important, Nick C. is now hearing that the TX stations are interested in Reaper. His exact twitter words: "Go after them." If you live in TX, please contact your local affiliates. They are owned by Tribune, and are two of their largest markets.

Hello everyone, knew here (love message boards, and currently LOVE yours ), I'm the guy who runs http://twitter.com/TheCWReaper and love how we've all come together in this time, seriously reminds me of Veronica Mars two years ago -- except this one looks like it has a chance. All the email replies I've been reading say that they're interested and want it to work out.
Just wanna say that I've emailed my local affiliate too, but don't know if I got to the right person, since the Tribune affiliates revamp, the site has been quite convoluted. So if you can get the right email from http://southflorida.com then PLEASE tell me. I contacted the webmasters one, but anywho...
I registered to post that I think we should go after people that can probably get some press on the issue, maybe they can do a quick plug for us and this situation. Like reporters that wrote about Reaper, like Blue Sunflower said, or maybe to even say that the hopefully-season finale is this Tuesday! We must get people to watch
I just hope we get to see more of Reaper and Sam's story. C'mon, this is an age where Dollhouse was renewed. Let's go Reaper!

Awesome, thembc, I've been meaning to tweet you and invite you to join here, you are doing such a great job of promoting Reaper over there as TheCWReaper--I think you were the first one I saw doing this, it's what gave me the idea to join and try it out. So thanks for that, since I think we've gotten tons of mileage from tweeting. It's fun that Bret H. and Jenny W. have been active there.
Glad you could make it here, and everyone, get on Twitter to help promote the show and keep up with breaking news. I'm now the reaperdmv Twitter expert (oops, I was until thembc joined us) so I'm happy to weakly guide you through Twitter, just let me know. Ask reapercast, I helped him! Right, Casey? Casey?
I'm linking to Bret Harrison's page to inspire you to join. I'm ccatko there, so search for me, follow me, and I'll follow you! Tweet tweet!
