Okay, I am overwhelmed at this point and need help. This whole campaign is now more than just me starting a board because I wanted to keep in contact with my 5 other Reaper friends.
We have been asked to do something, and I honestly have no idea how to do even *half* of it. I really need help trying to figure out how to organize this, especially so that we can start it ASAP. So please, any advice anyone has to offer cko and me on how to figure this out is MAJORLY appreciated. I am hoping that even if there is no one in our fandom who has ever done something like this before, there are at least some who can figure out how.
While supporting the affiliates and cable is good (so keep that up), we've been advised to Show Them The Money to convince ABC Studios and others that it's in their financial interest to Save Reaper. Basically, this tip is telling us we need to step it up.
After discussing this with Nick C., he replied with the following:
I suggest a DVD/Petition campaign. Show your money is where your mouth is. Get a legit petition in major markets. Buy a DVD (season 1 or 2). Attach copy of receipt to each signature.
Then set up dates to watch the show in order on your site and other REAPER sites. #savereaper #watchreaper on Twitter and chat during the scheduled time to watch the show. #chuckmemondays have broken into the top twittered subjects. Use that to get others to sign petition and buy a DVD set.
The general thought is for every 1 person who does something there is likely 100 people behind them. So if you can gather up 1,000 signatures and DVD receipts...you'd make a statement.
It has to be substantially different than past campaigns. They care about money. It's a business. So create a money making campaign. Get Jenny Wade and others to sign copies of DVDs to sell on your site. Get them involved. Attack Comic Con with it. Have DVDs the girls and Bret there to pimp the product and the petition.
Now, our first problem is how to gather the petitions/receipts. Cko and I are trying to work on that. Maybe she can update herself. Nick has said it doesn't matter if there is 1 receipt petition signed by 1000 people, or 1000 receipt petitions signed by 1 person.
I don't think people should send them to ABC - at least not yet. Remember, ABC gets thousands upon thousands of letters a day, so the last thing we need is for a receipt to be overlooked. We may need to send them somewhere else. I am still asking Nick about that. We (meaning me) also need some way of keeping track so that we (meaning me) know when 1000 has been reached.
As to the rest? Uh...I would *love* to do it, but I have absolutely no clue. Particularly for the last suggestion. I will tell you that I take the advice seriously, and want to work it if we can. It's definitely something that can rocket us into "Firefly" fandom status. Conventions are serious business, yo.
Now, I cannot guarantee this will work. I can't even guarantee that it's a good shot. But IMO, it *is* worth a shot - even if it's a long one. |
